| Abstract | Law is not only made up of codes, statutes rule and norms, it is also constituted, particu- larly in common law systems, by cases or ‘stories’ which are interpreted by judges. The focus of my enquiry is not law and literature but the creative process of law as literature that is written and read through the body. This gives rise to a plethora of questions, such as what is a case? What is a legal narrative? What is a ‘speech act’? What are the rules that shape and constrain legal discourse, how are they devised, and by whom? Who is the author? Who is the audience? To what extent is our imagination overly constrained by words when we think of law? These questions have been raised in a plethora of discur- sive and epistemological spheres of discourse in the context of law and humanities and beyond. It is not my intention to address or restate these questions from a purely theoret- ical standpoint which draws exclusively from legal literature; rather, I will seek to address these questions through a singular and collaborative creative process that fuses body and mind. In short, I want to explore an alternative approach which is more ‘doing by learning’ than the other way round by collaborating with participants to the workshop. |
