Abstract Echogenerative Practice is an auto-theoretical textual performance that mobilizes echo as subject and form to interrogate how meaning is made and transformed through acts of citation. Drawing on feminist, neuroqueer, and decolonial perspectives, it reframes how echo and echolalia, traditionally cast as passive or pathological modes of communication, can be understood as generative forces that distort, queer, and reconfigure signification.

Constructed as a 'tissue of quotations,' Echogenerative Practice performs citation as an aesthetic and critical gesture, exposing tensions between originality, appropriation, and authorship. The work positions echoing as activist poetics; a resistant practice that inhabits and transforms textual lineages in order to challenge institutional norms, disciplinary boundaries, and dominant epistemologies. The performance activates sonic rhythms that disrupt mainstream modes of articulation, opening space for forms of meaning and communicative patterning typically excluded by standard academic discourse.

Short biographies of the presenter(s)
  • Dr Trish Scott works at the intersection of socially engaged art, curation, experimental education and research. Her practice is focused on challenging and dismantling traditional hierarchies, structural inequalities and systems of value in cultural knowledge production, in order to create space for new forms of relationality and authorship. Trish is currently a lecturer in the Department of Culture, Media & Creative Industries at King's College London. Over the last decade she has worked on projects, programmes and exhibitions with organisations including Tate, Turner Contemporary, Goldsmiths Centre for Contemporary Art, Ideas Test and the Koestler Trust.

Additional information This will be a 25 minute performance in which I voice a text, comprised entirely of citations, which will also be projected, at scale, for an audience to follow. The projection is important as it shows the source of each word and phrase I am echoing.
Spatial and technical requirements The performance can happen in any indoor space with a projector.

The 2026 International Forum on Artistic Research takes place from 23 to 26 June 2026. Hosted by the University of Galway on the Atlantic coast of Ireland, the Forum addresses the challenges of Endangered Conceptual Worlds. As the 17th annual conference of the Society for Artistic Research it is the largest conference on practice-based research within and through the arts, bringing together more than 300 international participants: leading practitioners, scholars and policymakers from the entire range of arts-based disciplines.

Slightly extended deadline for submissions

The 2026 Forum on Artistic Research website has been inaccessible for several hours on Friday night and Saturday morning. Unfortunately, an update to the web server was scheduled to take place, which automatically activated maintenance mode and prevented any work on the submissions during the night and the next morning.
