| Abstract | Title: Preparing artistic researchers to work within multilingual ecosystems as a major task for artistic research education? Training artistic researchers to navigate multilingual environments and engage with diverse languages and their unique knowledge systems is a significant challenge in today’s higher education landscape. This challenge is driven by growing institutional interests and pressures from funding bodies to work in such contexts, whether related to internationalization, disability, the marginalization of communities, minority and regional languages, migration, or multilingual education. Additionally, precarious situations—whether due to economic issues or conflict—often compel artists to travel and work in different linguistic settings. In my book on multilingual dramaturgies, I describe the artistic creation within ecosystems made up of multiple languages as a multi-centered and multidimensional web of varied materials, gaps, and interactions. These webs continuously evolve in response to the performance and the audience's circumstances. Given this reality, how can we prepare artistic researchers to work within these complex webs? How can we enable them to fully embrace and explore diverse knowledge and knowings that exist across different languages, challenging established power structures and tapping into the potential highlighted in this conference’s call? In this presentation-workshop, I will consider the difficulties and unknowings related to these questions and suggest some practical exercises and approaches to navigate this intricate landscape. |
