Abstract
Artistic Research and the Lingering Gaze of Thought

I will start with addressing so-called ’non-traditional research outputs’. That will be an entry to say something more in general about the place of artistic research in academia and its possible alignments with other research fields. I then want to highlight four aspects of artistic research: the agency of practices and things; the importance of practice-based methods; the condition of knowledge, specifically 4E-cognition; and the articulation and publication of artistic research. I need those aspects in order to say something about discursivity and the role of language.

Format: lecture (about 40 minutes)

Slightly extended deadline for submissions

The 2026 Forum on Artistic Research website has been inaccessible for several hours on Friday night and Saturday morning. Unfortunately, an update to the web server was scheduled to take place, which automatically activated maintenance mode and prevented any work on the submissions during the night and the next morning. We have therefore decided to slightly extend the deadline for submissions to Monday 2 March 2026 at 23:59 GMT. Feel free to work on your proposals until then.
