Abstract
What does it mean to be creative in today's world? After over a year of preparation, the new Research Institute for Creativity at the University of Galway is set to officially open at the 2026 International Forum on Artistic Research. Three dynamic panel sessions will bring together international advisors, university leaders and local and international guests to discuss some of today's most pressing societal challenges. These sessions will highlight the vital role that research in art, culture, heritage and creativity can play in driving change.
How can next-generation practice-based research across creative disciplines gain and claim relevance in an increasingly fragmented world? This session will explore how collaborations between universities and culturally rich regional ecosystems can promote cultural and linguistic diversity as a competitive advantage.
Furthermore, it will explore the intersection of art, science, and policymaking and its potential to address complex, systemic global challenges. How can artistic research broaden the traditional concept of evidence, identify subtle or weak signals and early warning signs, and empower citizens through artistic intelligence and creative technologies?
